Elections might be held ahead of February 2024: Caretaker PM Kakar

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Thursday said that general elections in the country might be held ahead of February next year. While talking to a private news channel, PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar the Election Commission of Pakistan was the relevant forum to take a decision in this regard. The ECP was mandated to take a decision in this regard and the caretaker government would fulfil its constitutional obligation by extending all possible support to the ECP for holding elections, the prime minister expressed his views. Utility Store accused of selling expired, substandard ghee

SHIKARPUR: An outlet of Utility Stores Corporation (USC) in Shikarpur city of Sindh has been accused of selling expired and substandard ghee, ARY News reported on Wednesday. According to details, a citizen – named Ali Baig – has moved Session Court against alleged sale of expired and substandard ghee in a utility store outlet in Shikarpur. In his petition, the citizen claimed that a report, published by Pakistan Accounts Committee, proved that substandard ghee was purchased by the outlet. “Consumption of such substandard commodity will increase heart diseases”, the petitioner added. FIA Interpol arrests ‘wanted criminal’ from Abu Dhabi

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a ‘wanted criminal’ from Abu Dhabi with the help of Interpol and shifted the suspect to Faisalabad, ARY News reported on Wednesday. The accused man was identified as Tasawur Hussain who is wanted in several cases including a murder to the Punjab police. A case had been lodged against Tasawur Hussain at a local police station in Jhelum. The arrest was made after a close coordination between Interpol Islamabad and Abu Dhabi. Earlier, the FIA’s Interpol wing issued a red warrant for the arrest of the suspect. Later, the FIA Faisalabad Circle handed over to the concerned police officials. KARACHI: Sugar price has now cross Rs200 per kilogram in local markets in different cities of the country, ARY News reported on Tuesday. Despite the commerce ministry’s rejection of a shortage, the sugar price rocketed to over Rs200 per kilogram in different cities. The inflation-hit citizens demanded the authorities to take concrete steps to reduce the sugar price. The citizens of Quetta and Sukkur were forced to buy sugar at Rs220 per kg, whereas, the sugar was available in Karachi markets from Rs180 to Rs200 per kg. The sugar price was hiked to Rs195 to Rs200/kg in Lahore, Jhang and Faisalabad. In an unusual incident in India’s Jharkhand, four railway carriages were seen moving along the tracks without an engine or a locomotive pilot.   The incident – a video of which is going viral on social media – took place on the railway lines of Barharwa, where four railway carriages were observed moving along the tracks without an engine or a locomotive pilot. Pakistan approves $1.78b ‘Emergency Plan for Polio Eradication’

ISLAMABAD: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) here on Monday approved Emergency Plan for Polio Eradication (3rd revised) at a cost of USD 1784.93 million, ARY News reported. As per details, the amount included grant from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) partners of US$.1197.93 million, Islamic Development Bank loan of US$.552 million and French Development Agency (AFD) loan of US$.35 million. STOCKHOLM: The Nobel Foundation said on Saturday it would not after all invite the ambassadors of Russia, Belarus and Iran to attend the Nobel Prize awards ceremony in Stockholm this year, reversing an earlier decision after widespread criticism. Last year, the foundation left out the ambassadors of Russia and its ally Belarus because of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. The foundation said on Thursday it would invite them, and Iran’s ambassador, to this year’s prize award ceremonies in December, commenting that it sought to include even those who did not share the values of the Nobel Prize. THATTA: In a horrific incident, at least seven people died in a collision between a van and truck near Kenjhar Lake in Thatta, ARY News reported.  As per details, a van carrying fishermen collided with a truck near Kenjhar Lake, resulting in the death of seven people. In an unusual incident, a New Jersey policeman showed no one is exempt from the law, not even his own daughter. According to an international publication, John Lee – a sergeant with Monmouth County Sheriff’s office – arrested his daughter for DUI (driving under the influence) after she destroyed traffic lights. On 28th December 2022, a witness observed a white vehicle strike a traffic light and then quickly drive off. A part of vehicle’s bumper had fallen off in the road after the hit. When asked by other police officers in this regard, 21-year-old Teresa – who was drunk – refused to hit the traffic light and said his bumper had broken days before the incident. A soldier was martyred during an exchange of fire with terrorists in the Tirah valley of the Khyber district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ARY News quoted ISPR on Friday. The fire exchange between security forces and terrorists took place on the night of August 31/September 1, said Inter-Services Public Relations in a statement. The martyred soldier was identified as Havildar Muntazir Shah, 36, a Swabi district resident. It added, “The troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location, resulting in the killing of one terrorist,” The killed terrorist remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces and killing of innocent civilians, said the military’s media wing.
