ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) President Ahmed Bilal Mehboob said that Electoral reforms without opposition would be controversial, ARY News reported.  While talking to the ARY News programme ‘Khabar’, PILDAT President Ahmed Bilal Mehboob said one month is left in general elections and electoral reforms cannot be made in such short time as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will not have enough time to implement those reforms. He said that the electoral reforms will be controversial without the opposition as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has already boycotted the electoral reforms committee. The government needs to consult PTI regarding the electoral reforms, Ahmed Bilal added. PIA receives warning letter from Riyadh airport authority

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has received a warning letter from the Riyadh airports authority for the clearance of dues, ARY News reported on Wednesday. The Riyadh airports authority wrote a letter to the PIA administration to clear six-month dues by July 15. The authority stated in its letter that Pakistan International Airlines has not paid over SAR 8.2 million in dues. Sources told ARY News that the Riyadh airport authority set a condition to approve PIA’s winter flight slot after the clearance of the dues, otherwise, the winter slot of the airline. Sources added that the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) also issued a warning to the PIA. Flour prices rise up by Rs13 per kilo as wheat costs surge

KARACHI: As the prices of essential commodities, including flour and sugar, persistently rise, the recent surge in wheat prices has led to a rise in the cost of flour, ARY News reported on Monday. According to Chairman Wholesale Grocers Association Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, the wheat price in the wholesale market has been increased by Rs13 per kilo, pushing the flour rates up to Rs150 to Rs160. Ibrahim claimed that the hoarding mafia has created an ‘artificial shortage’ of wheat in interior Sindh and open market of Karachi. In this regard, the chairman said, the price of a 100/kg bag of wheat in Karachi has increased to Rs 13,200, pushing the price of the commodity to Rs132 per kilo. MALAKAND: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Malakand has cancelled interim bail of 102 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers in a case related to May 9 riots, ARY News reported on Monday. The PTI leaders and workers were arrested from the premises of the ATC after the cancellation of bail. The suspected PTI leaders and activists were facing charges of torching Swat Motorway Toll Plaza on May 9. The accused persons included former MNA Mehboob Shah and ex-MPA Humayun Khan. Fire erupts at Gujranwala oil refining unit: sources

GUJRANWALA: An oil refinery unit at Alipur Chattha has caught fire and a firefighting operation has been underway, citing sources ARY News reported on Sunday. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and initiated firefighting operation, sources said. According to preliminary reports five fire tenders of Rescue 1122 have been engaged in firefighting operation. Missing Mexican reporter found dead: newspaper

A regional correspondent for leading Mexican newspaper La Jornada was found dead on Saturday, a day after he went missing in the western state of Nayarit, the daily said. “A body found in the village of Huachines… in the municipality of Tepic was identified as Luis Martin Sanchez Iniguez, 59 years old, correspondent for La Jornada,” the Mexico City newspaper said on its website. The journalist’s wife, Cecilia Lopez, told investigators that she had been unaware of his whereabouts since Wednesday night, when she was in another town visiting relatives, the newspaper reported, citing local authorities. Sanchez Iniguez’s body was found on Saturday morning in a rural area near Tepic, the capital of Nayarit. KARACHI: After keeping production activities suspended from June 22 to July 8, Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd (PSMCL) has extended plant shutdown due to a ‘continued shortage of inventory level’, ARY News reported. SBPs foreign exchange reserves rise $393m to $4.46bn

KARACHI: The foreign exchange reserves of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased by $393 million to $4.46 billion, ARY News reported, quoting the central bank. “On June 30, 2023, SBP’s reserves increased by $393 million to $4.46 billion” the central bank said in a statement. Meanwhile, the total liquid foreign reserves held by the country stood at $9.74 billion, , whereas net foreign reserves with commercial banks stood at $5.28 billion.
