ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has constituted a high-powered supervisory committee, led by the Special Secretary of the Commission, for the arrangements for the upcoming general elections. The committee’s responsibility includes ensuring the proper and timely execution of election arrangements, as well as maintaining close coordination with relevant departments to ensure smooth elections, the state news agency reported. Expressing contentment with the progress in the preparations, Secretary of the Election Commission, Omar Hamid Khan, directed the heads of all Election Commission divisions and Provincial Election Commissioners to promptly finalize election-related arrangements. ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday again cautioned the federal and provincial caretaker governments against getting involved in any political activities that might undermine the smooth conduct of elections. In letters written to caretaker governments, the electoral watchdog affirmed that the regimes must refrain from any actions aimed at exerting influence on the elections or engaging in any activities that could, in any way, impact or compromise the integrity of free and fair elections. “The caretaker governments, as apolitical bodies, are authorised to make decisions or take steps pertaining to ongoing bilateral or multilateral agreements, as well as projects that have been previously initiated under the Public Private Partnership Authority Act 2017.” The ECP cautioned the caretaker administrations to confine themselves to the authority granted to them by the Elections Act, 2017. Man commits suicide after killing wife, two children for hitting pet dog

In a horrific incident that went viral in no time, a man committed suicide after killing his wife, two children after being asked not to hit pet dog. The incident happened in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, where a 45-year-old man reportedly killed his wife and two children with a sword and then to committed suicide. A drunk man who was identified as Dilip Pawar reached his home and started beating the pet dog angry over its presence in the house. His wife Ganga intervened asking him to leave the animal alone. This led to a fight and he killed her with a sword. When their 14-year-old son Yogendra and 17-year-old daughter Neha tried to protect their mother, he killed them too. 11 laborers dead in North Waziristan bomb blast

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: At least 11 laborers died and two injured in a bomb blast in Gulmir Kot, tehsil Shawal North Waziristan, ARY News reported. As per details, the police spokesperson said that the bomb exploded in a van in North Waziristan which resulted in the death of 11 laborers while two others sustained injuries. Earlier, at least 40 persons were killed, and 200 sustained injuries in the powerful bomb blast that targeted Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) workers’ convention. It was learned that nearly 400 people were attending the JUI-F worker convention on Shanday Morr near the NADRA office. Law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area. A US Army soldier killed his wife before hiding her body, posting distressing messages about her disappearance and helping his mother-in-law search for the deceased. Major benchmarks were little changed on Friday, with the US West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) up 10 cents, or 0.1%, at $80.49 a barrel, while Brent crude was flat at $84.12 a barrel as of 0205 GMT. The US Federal Reserve’s focus on containing inflation amid stronger-than-expected economic data was keeping a lid on oil prices. On Thursday, the US Labor Department reported the number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits fell in the last week, suggesting the still-tight labour market could prolong the Fed’s tightening campaign to cool the economy. More than 60% of candidates have failed the written tests for the 40 posts of trade officers which would be appointed in foreign countries by the Pakistani government, citing sources, ARY News reported on Thursday. Sources told ARY News that 61.45 of candidates have failed to clear the written test for the trade officers’ posts. It was learnt that only 101 out of 262 candidates passed the written test, whereas, 161 candidates were declared fail. All candidates of Secretariat, Trade Promotion Services and Economist groups have failed the written test, whereas, the highest number of candidates, 35, were declared successful from the commerce and trade group. 14-year-old commits suicide after mother scolded him for using phone

In a shocking incident that went viral, a 14-year-old boy committed suicide after his mother scolded him for excessive use of his phone. The incident happened in the Indian state of Telangana, where a 14-year-old boy named Sai Charan took his life after his mother scolded him for spending excessive time on his cell phone. Despite his mother’s advice to focus on his studies, Charan was unable to cope with the scolding and hanged himself in his house while alone. When the mother returned home she discovered the distressing scene, finding the door closed. KYIV: Two cities in western Ukraine were hit by air strikes overnight, local officials said early on Tuesday. Lviv mayor Andriy Sadovyi said “many missiles were shot down”, but that “residential buildings got hit” in the strike. “There is a fire on the upper floors. We are evacuating people. All services are on site,” he said on Telegram. Lviv has mostly been spared the daily bombardments that have hit other parts of Ukraine. KARACHI: A three-member dacoit gang involved in more than 50 street crimes was busted by Karachi police on Sunday, ARY News reported. A raiding team comprising Landhi police officials arrested the three-member dacoit gang that was involved in over 50 street crimes in Korangi, Landhi, Malir and Malir River areas of Karachi.
